  As part of the agenda for the Climate Change Conference participants were asked to provide steps to addressing climate change:

Step 3
Addressing Climate Change in our Industry

 

  • Reduce flying to meetings - use video conference, Skype
 
  • Ensure facilities are energy efficient
 
  • Prepare audit sheet for staff to use in classrooms, schools
 
  • Have sustainability officers
 
  • Conduct sustainability reviews
 
  • Work with unions to develop Green Enterprise Agreements
 
  • Negotiate environmental clauses in Enterprise Agreements to apply to sites
 
  • Utilise other agencies and what they can offer - share, educate
 
  • Upskilling of trainers on green issues
 
  • Conduct an audit of the industry
 
  • Work local
 
  • Seek legislation for specific industries to have standards in relation to climate change
 
  • Have peak consultative bodies on how to effect change
 
  • Use power as a consumer - buy green
 
  • Educate and activate members on climate change and to pressure employer to be green
 
  • Use, or when possible substitute, biodegradable products
 
  • Talk to staff for ideas and suggestions
 
  • Share stories, best examples and practices
 
  • Campaign
 
  • Examine workplace practices
 
  • Work together with management
 
  • Be pro-active
 
  • Look for green business opportunities
