  As part of the agenda for the Climate Change Conference participants were asked to provide steps to addressing climate change:

Addressing Climate Change in the Nation

 

  • Put pressure on Government re Copenhagen - require agreement for 30% reduction in carbon emissions
 
  • Members and officials to call politicians
 
  • Get involved in ACTU strategies to influence politicians
 
  • Legislate for local and work sustainable committees (management and unions), similar to OHS&W process
 
  • Cap carbon emissions
 
  • Implement green energies
 
  • Ensure seamless transition from dirty jobs to clean jobs
 
  • Smash capitalism - the drive to accumulate capital is unsustainable
 
  • Lobby Liberal MP's on CPRS
 
  • Maintain political pressure
 
  • Continue with grass roots campaigning
 
  • Educate! Educate! Educate!
 
  • More wetlands
 
  • Use wave energy
 
  • Take responsibility! for future generations
 
  • ACTU to place on their agenda to put a profit cap on financial banking corporations
 
  • Lobby federal government to test all nano-technology for noise and EMR before accreditation
 
  • Stop all clearfall logging in Australia
 
  • Support public understanding and education
 
  • Introduce legislation for compulsory workplace energy audits
 
  • More means tested incentives for solar energy and cars
 
  • Reduce overseas travel by politicians
 
  • Introduce congestion taxes for cars
 
  • Set up one central body to tackle climate change with a representative from each state and territory to look at long term strategies and actions
 
  • Lobby for increased funding to states for storm water catchment and reuse
