  As part of the agenda for the Climate Change Conference participants were asked to provide steps to addressing climate change:

Addressing Climate Change in our Unions

 

  • Include green log of claims in EBA
 
  • Engage leadership
 
  • Look for productivity improvement
 
  • Join Climate Connectors
 
  • Promote productivity gains through education and cleaner, leaner work practices (switch off, set printer to double sided)
 
  • Meet people and communicate
 
  • Educate members and delegates on climate change
 
  • Have environmental clauses in Enterprise Bargaining Agreements
 
  • Build partnerships with environmental groups
 
  • Set up phone tree to lobby politicians
 
  • Name union environmental activists in each workplace and connect them up
 
  • Use membership links to promote climate connectors
 
  • Dedicated green page in union newsletter
 
  • Encourage email only communications
 
  • Establish a Green Activist Network
 
  • Unions to use electric / hybrid cars
 
  • Cover car park and install solar panels
 
  • Review union policy on climate change
 
  • Consider storm water capturing
 
  • Plant a native garden
 
  • Turn everything off when not in use
 
  • Reduce hard copy materials and use web more
 
  • Train members to use / look at website as source of information
 
  • Promote good environment strategies in public and in private
 
  • Promote fairness around energy
 
  • Engage members and the community in campaigns
 
  • Share campaigns with SA Unions
 
  • Have a green project officer
 
  • Recycle
 
  • Encourage member activism
 
  • Sharing with other unions
 
  • Get a sponsor to provide t-shirts with a slogan to be worn at work for a designated day
 
  • Debate government policy
