Note : Exempt Employers are not eligible for these subsidies.
Participants working in the Construction Industry or in maintenance may be eligible for a fee rebate of $100 per day.

Accident
/
Incident Investigation
|
|
A one
cay
course
where
participants
examine
risk
management
principles
and
learn to
develop
a risk
management
plan for
their
workplace.
|
|
|
Developing OHS Policies and Procedures
|
|
Policy and procedure documents are an integral part of an organisation's approach to OHS and a requirement under legislation. They are also an essential tool for tailoring the legislation to the specific needs of a workplace. This course is designed to provide participants with information and skills to develop and implement OH&S policies and procedures.
|
|
|
Drugs & Alcohol in the Workplace
|
|
What are the risks which arise from workers being affected by drugs
or
alcohol in the workplace? Participants will examine ways of
measuring the OHS effects and functional performance. Drug and alcohol
testing will be discussed, along with alternative ways of dealing with
these issues.
|
|
|
|
|
A one
day
course
to
introduce
participants
to
ergonomics,
the role
of the
ergonomist
and how
to apply
an
ergonomic
approach
to the
management
of
workplace
hazards.
|
|
|
Fatigue - Irregular Hours/Shift Work
|
| A significant proportion of the work force is
engaged in working irregular hours, including shiftwork. Participants
will examine the causes of workplace fatigue; how to identify symptoms
and approaches to controlling and preventing fatigue. |
|
|
Fire Safety
|
Is your workplace at risk from fire? This course will examine the steps
necessary to eliminate or reduce the risks in your workplace. Participants
will also cover the emergency procedures necessary to protect workers
in case of fire in the workplace.

Hazard Management and Hazardous
Substances
|
|
A one
day
course
where participants will learn to develop knowledge and skills to contribute effectively to the hazard management process. Examine the rights and responsibilities of all parties in the workplace and learn how to apply the hazard management process to a workplace.
|
|
|
Infectious Diseases
|
|
A one
day
course
where participants will develop an understanding of the nature of communicable diseases and of identification, assessment and control strategies. Appropriate personnel and management practices will be explored in the context of relevant legislation and regulations.
|
|
|
Management of Stress as a Hazard
|
|
A one
day
course
where
participants
will
examine
the factors contributing to stress in the workplace, and the application of the hazard management process to psychological hazards. This includes analysis of work design, work organisation and systems of work (eg autonomy, pace and type of work, work environment).

|
|
Management of Vocal Problems
|
|
In a number of occupations the voice is a major tool used by workers – for example in teaching and childcare. Workers in these sectors report both short- and long-term problems arising from constant use of the voice and from the need to use the voice at high volumes. This course will examine the OHS problems involved and identify strategies for overcoming these problems.

Negotiation Skills
|
|
A one
day
course
where
participants
look at
negotiation
skills to assist participants to effectively negotiate occupational health and safety issues with management in the workplace. Participants will learn successful behavioural techniques and methods to manage conflict and to reach agreement through consensus.

Tolerance

outlines the
ACTU campaign to
ensure workplace
ill-health is

Occupational Stress
|
| A one day
course where participants will gain an understanding of the nature and causes of stress in the workplace, learn how to apply hazard management processes to stress as a workplace hazard and identify control options for the elimination or minimisation of stress in the workplace. |

OHS Systems
|
|
What systems should you have in your workplace to ensure a safe and healthy work environment? What ensures some systems work and some don’t? This course will enable participants to analyse the OHS systems and their implementation in their workplace. Strategies for improving the effectiveness of OHS systems will also be explored.

Impact
of
Workplace
Deaths
(half
day
course)
|
Workplace deaths have a devastating impact on co-workers and their
families. This course will explore the nature of grief, reactions
to workplace death and ways to address the personal issues that arise
from a fatality.

Psychological
Health |
|
A one
day
course
where
participants
look at
how
organisational
culture
and
management
style
can
impact
on
psychological
health
in the
workplace.
Participants
will be
introduced
to
methods
for
identifying
psychological
health
issues
both at
an
individual
and
organisational
level
and
discuss
control
measures
to
improve
performance
in terms
of OHS&W
and
productivity
improvements.

tools to
develop
response
strategies.

will

awareness
of

responsibilities

The
course

HSR's to

programs
in the
workplace.

Workplace Health - Body Mapping

A one

course
where
participants
will
examine
how
various
concepts
and
ideas
for
workplace
health
can be
promoted.
One tool
is "Body
Mapping"
a
technique
used to
identify
common
patterns
of
health
problems
amongst
workers.
